The ER Physician that is on for that shift. It will be one of the five ER physicians we have on staff. These doctors are presented on the front of this brochure. The ER physician will see every patient that checks into the ER. A registered nurse (R.N.) will assess and monitor your physical condition, as well as start IV, and give medications as needed. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will start IV and give medications as needed as well. They will also monitor your vital signs, and give you important discharge education. They will make referrals to specialty MD’s at HMC if needed.

There are many reasons why a person may have to wait in the emergency department. Some of these reasons may be due to sickest patients are being seen first, overcrowding of the emergency room due to flu, etc. Appointments are not usually made in an emergency room; therefore, multiple patients may arrive at one time.

Critical patients with life-threatening illnesses, conditions, or traumatic injuries will be seen and treated first. This may cause your emergency -room visit time to be longer.
